Program Levels

Thursdays 8:45 to 9:15 AM (During Chapel) – Lower Campus

Our whole school elementary-level program teaches the fundamentals of music to young students in an engaging and inspiring way. Students learn to sing with good tone, to read rhythms and music notation, to identify the instruments of the orchestra by sight and sound, and learn excerpts from classical masterworks such as Bach’s B-minor Mass, Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio Espagnol, and Brahms’s second symphony.

This program is included in the core education for each student.

Tuesdays and Thursdays 9 to 10 AM – Lower Campus

Students can begin the instrumental introductions class in one of four disciplines:

– High Strings (Violin)
– Low Strings (Cello)
– Brass (Trumpet)
– Woodwinds (Clarinet)

Students participate in two 1-hour group classes per week and learn the fundamentals of instrumental position and technique as well as rhythm and note reading. Students are taught in a group setting in an encouraging and friendly environment. Upon completion of this class, students are able to join the Camerata Ensemble in the fall semester and begin their orchestral journey.

Program Fee: $440 per semester

Tuesdays and Thursdays 9 to 10 AM – Lower Campus

The Camerata Ensemble is the introductory ensemble for our young musicians who graduate from the Instrumental Introductions course or who have similar comparable experience on their instrument. Camerata holds two 1-hour rehearsals per week, and studies classical and hymn arrangements as well as chamber choir repertoire. Students learn how to play successfully as an ensemble and learn the nuance, technique, and etiquette required for orchestral playing. Each semester begins at an easy pace and gives new musicians a chance to acclimate to large ensemble playing.

As an academic, expressive, and performance discipline, the study of music develops the mental, emotional, and physical skills of each student, allowing them to interconnect the wonder of many disciplines combined in a single skill. Through the universal language of music in its many dialects (string, wind, brass, percussion, keyboard, and vocal), the study of this craft is rewarding beyond our imaginations.

Program Fee: $400 Per Semester

Select Fridays After School – Upper Campus

The Chamber Artists Program, with its home on Beacon Hill’s Upper Campus, places students in small ensembles that perform chamber music masterworks at high-profile and distinguished events. Groups are formed among similar levels of string, wind, and brass instruments and study the greatest works of chamber music literature, coached and guided by expert faculty.
